University of Agriculture Faisalabad Vice Chancellor Dr Muhammad Ashraf on Thursday inaugurated vemi compost fertilizer center. The University scientists team led by Dr Zuabir Aslam has established environment friendly and low cost vemi compost organic fertilizer.

Dr Muhammad Ashraf said fertilizer would not only increase soil fertility but also help minimize dependency over high cost imported chemical fertilizer. He said that due to increasing usage of chemical fertilizer and excessive cultivation on same land, the land fertilely was on the decline. He said it will provide healthy organic food for the people but also give doable solutions to dump remains of fruits, vegetables and crops. He said that utilization of the vermi-compost as organic supplement and the soil conditioner is the substitute for the inorganic fertilizer. He said that remains of fruits, vegetable, and livestock would be processed through worms to produce vermi organic fertilizer. He said that we have to identify the earth worth keeping in view of our environment in view for the said cause. He said that the step will also help lower down the import budget pf chemical fertilizer. Talking about the benefit of vermi compost, Dr Zubair Aslam said that he said it benefits include recycling of organic wastes, production of energy rich resources, improvement of soil Ph, and other soil nutrients. Turkish scientist Korkmaz Beliturk, Dr Asif Tanvir, Dr Ashfaq Chatha, Dr Zubair Aslam and others also spoke.
