Experts at a workshop on Monday called for ensuring bio-safety in the country to protect the human lives from environmental and health hazards. The workshop titled Bio-safety measures in Agriculture was organized by Office of Research innovation, commercialization ( ORIC), University of Agriculture Faisalabad (UAF). Chairing the inaugural session, UAF Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Iqrar Ahmad Khan said that in the modern era, the bio safety had gained immense importance due to emerging hazards not only posed to the peoples’ lives but also to environment. He said that we had to produce the skilled manpower in bio-safety to cope with the situation. He said that bio-safety measures are meant for preventing unintentional exposure to pathogens and toxins, or their accidental release. He said that excessive usage of sprays, inputs and industrialization were posing the serious damage to the environment and people’s lives. He said that the UAF was making all-out efforts to ensure the quality education and to produce the skilled manpower. ORIC Director Dr Zahir Ahmad Zahir said that the there is the need to create the awareness among the masses about the bio safety and how to implement. He said that the county was blessed with the tremendous resources. There is the need to tap the potential. Center for Agriculture and Bio Chemistry and Biotechnology Director Dr Sarwar Khan said that we need to take the extra measure to ensure the bio-safety protocals in the country. He said that we are polluting the environment from our own hands. He added that there is need to tell the aftermath of deteriorating situation. Dr Khurrum Zia said that material technology agreement is essential for the transportation of the research material among the institutions. He added that of bio-safety measures have become prerequisite for the environment and people’s health for which tangible steps are needed. Dr Burhan Ahmad said that if we fail to ensure the bio-safety measures, we will lose the exports of the agri commodities. He said that the country was facing he many challenges.
