The University of Agriculture Faisalabad has kicked off weed eradication campaign as an initiative of the Punjab government. It is aimed at promotion the latest weed eradication tools for productivity enhancement.

The University of Agriculture Faisalabad has kicked off weed eradication campaign as an initiative of the Punjab government. It is aimed at promotion the latest weed eradication tools for productivity enhancement. The committees have been constituted to carry out the campaign at the campus and to create awareness among the masses about its menace. The staff and students of different departments Department of Entomology, Department of Agronomy, and Department of Plant Pathology visited the UAF fields and farms and eradicated the weeds from its adjacent areas on the first day of the campaign . Earlier talking to teams, UAF Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Iqrar A Khan lauded the steps being taken on the part of the government for the development of the agriculture sector. He said that the weeds are the enemies of agriculture production and weeds cause the loss of the water, productivity and land. He said by controlling the weeds, we can not only increase the production but also the income of farming community. He urged farmers to increase use of technology at all stages of crop production. Dean Faculty of Agriculture Dr Muhammad Amjad said that pathenium had emerged as the threatening weed to the agriculture sector in the Punjab. He said that it is causing a loss worth millions of rupees. He said that it spreads around the river. After targeting the central Punjab, it is now moving towards Southern Punjab. He stressed upon the need for stepped-up effort for the cause. Chairman Agronomy Dr Riaz Ahmad, Entomology Chairman Dr Jalal Arif, Dr Mansoor Sahi, and other notables also spoke on the occasion.
