International Women's Day Celebrations 2017
USAID funded U.S.-Pakistan Center for Advanced studies at university of Agriculture Faisalabad organized International Women’s Day dated 8th March,2017 with fervor and enthusiasm. The event was inaugurated by Punjab Provisional Minister for agriculture Mr. Muhammad Naeem Akhtar Bhabha along with UAF Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Iqrar Ahmad Khan. The first event in this regard awareness walk in which women faculty members from various departments, administrative staff and students participated in large number. The cyclists from various women hostels escorted the walk. The walk started from outside V.C house and finished at outside administration block. Later, participants gathered at New senate hall for central ceremony. The ceremony began with the recitation of Holy Quran followed by Naat-e-Rasool Maqbool(S.A.W).In his welcome address Vice Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Iqrar Ahmed Khan urged the need for more women participation in development of country. He highlighted the achievements of university regarding women empowerment. He thanked the Government of Punjab for constructing a large hostel for 1000students. Dr. Sadia Ilyas, Gender Specialist(USPCAS-AFS) presented CAS prospects and activities for women empowerment. Key note address was delivered by Dr. Riffat Ayesha, Ex Director, SAARC Human Resource Development Center, on the role of Nutrition on Personal Development of female. In his address as a Chief Guest Minister for Agriculture M. Naeem Akhtar Khan Bhabha, talked about the role of women in accordance with teaching of Islam. He quoted the quotation of CM Punjab, Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif: “If you want to go fast, go alone, “If you want to go far, go together” Later on, Chief guest visited Institute of Home Sciences along with Vice Chancellor and other dignitaries. He also visited Women Complex and other facilities extended for women at UAF. The first day of event ended with the refreshment. On the second day, A scientific model competition was held in collaboration with the Department of Chemistry (UAF) at the Art gallery of Iqbal Auditorium as a part of International women’s day celebrations, in order to promote the entrepreneurship among the women community. The judges of the contest were Dr. Nancy J Allen from UC Davis, Dr. Bushra Sadia, Chair Biotechnology USPCAS-AFS and Dr. Haq Nawaz Bhatti, Chairman Department of Chemistry (UAF) and Dr. Noreen Ran , Department of Zoology (UAF). The organizer of contest was Dr. Sadia Ilyas Gender Specialist, USPCAS-AFS. Total eleven teams participated in the event with New innovative themes and titles. The first position was bagged by a model on Hydro metallurgical Plant the model was prepared by Huma Akram, Shafaq Masud, Numra Shabbir and Asma Jabeen. The Second position was bagged by a model on Waste Water Treatment Plant and the model was prepared by Mariam Tariq, Rafia Rehman, Rukhsar Anum and Shafaq Nisar. The 3rd position was bagged by a model on Nano Fertilizer, the model was prepared by Rafia Rehman, Namra Naeem, Tabinda Boota, Aqsa Anjum and Fiza Khalid. A large number of students and faculty members attended the Prize distribution ceremony.
