Under the project “Promotion of solar cooker to change the energy use behavior of communities” a social mobilization activity was conducted at U.S.-Pakistan Center for Advanced Studies in Agriculture and Food Security(USPCAS-AFS) Community Outreach Center at Chak No. 272 JB, Faisalabad

Solar cooker is a simple, zero emission device that cooks food and boils water using only the light of the sun. Under the project “Promotion of solar cooker to change the energy use behavior of communities” a social mobilization activity was conducted at U.S.-Pakistan Center for Advanced Studies in Agriculture and Food Security(USPCAS-AFS) Community Outreach Center at Chak No. 272 JB, Faisalabad in order to create awareness about the concept of solar cooking among rural females. The activity was financed by the USAID funded USPCAS-AFS, Endowment Fund, UAF and USDA. The Purpose of the activity was to inform Rural women about the working of solar cookers and its advantages and disadvantages. Principal Investigator Ms. Naveed Farah, lecturer Rural Sociology, UAF explained the importance of solar cooker use for the better health of women and other family members. People were well aware of solar energy, so its acceptability already exits, however, the idea of solar cooker was absolutely new for them. They were informed about the health & nutrition benefits of solar cooking along with its cost effectiveness and eco- friendliness.
