Apreciation ceremony for Awardees of NRPU 2016-17

Chairing the appreciation ceremony for awardees of National Research Program for Universities (NRPU) for the University of Agriculture Faisalabad researchers at New Senate Hall, UAF Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Iqrar Ahmad Khan showed his concern that the farming community was confronting with a string of problems for which we have to pace up efforts by creating awareness among rural populations regarding modern trends in the agriculture. He showed his concern that the major crops had been facing the stagnation for the last two decades. He said that with the increasing population and diminishing agricultural land, we have to increase the per acre production. He viewed that the government was making the tangible steps to make the agriculture a profitable sector as in present scenario, a farmer’s son doesn’t want to become a farmer. He also stressed upon the need of the social mobility and joint efforts to cope with common challenges. He further added that we will have to create awareness among people about agriculture, health nutrition and other issues. He said that University was making all-out efforts to address the problems of the common man. Dean Faculty of Agriculture Dr Amjad Aulakh said that the country population has crossed 200 million people whereas the agriculture land was diminishing. He said the agriculture sector was also facing a daunting issue of water scarcity that would worsen in the years to come. Director Officer of Research Innovation and Commercialization Dr Zahir Ahmad Zahir sid academia- industry linkages and knowledge based economy were pivotal to compete with the rest of world. “ Our competitive research portfolio has crossed Rs 2.5 billion, which is the largest among the all the varsities in the country.
