The outreach chair of US-Pakistan Center of Advanced Studies in Agriculture and Food Security, UAF organized two separate outreach events at UAF Community Center Chak 470 GB, tehsil Samundri on 18th May 2017 Interactive Session with School Children: Considering increasing disinclination of new generation of rural areas towards farming, the Outreach Chair strives to create motivation among our rural youth and children about agriculture and livestock enterprise. In this context, an interactive session was organized at Government Primary School, Chak-470 GB tehsil Samundri. The main purpose of the session was to educate the school children of the care of livestock animals and backyard poultry. Dr. Qamar Bilal and Dr. Saif-ur-Rehman conducted the first interactive session. The children were educated about basic concepts of livestock management and backyard poultry production with the help of posters and pictures. Second session was conducted by Dr. Babar Shahbaz, Dr. Ijaz Ashraf and Dr. Ghazanfar Ali Khan. A quiz competition was held in this session. Students were asked basic agriculture related questions and prize were distributed to the winners. A drawing competition was also held and the children worked in small groups and made drawings of fruit, vegetables, rural life etc. At the end a brain storming session with school teachers was held to generate ideas about future activities. Field Clinic: A field clinic was arranged at Community Outreach Center, Chak 470 GB Samundri. The farmers discussed their livestock and poultry related problems with Dr. Qamar Bilal and Dr. Saif-ur-Rehmman respectively. The UAF faculty members responded to the queries of farmers and suggested remedial and precautionary measures for the treatment of diseases. The farmers also took individual prescriptions for their farm animals and poultry diseases. The farmers were also educated about preparation of balanced animal feed with the available resources and about the importance of timely vaccination.
