German experts and University of Agriculture Faisalabad scientists have joined hands to work together on cotton under the project water footprints of cotton textile industry. A 20 members’ delegation called on UAF Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Iqrar Ahmad Khan and discussed the area of mutual concerns. All deans and directors were present on the occasion. Dr Iqrar A Khan said the collaborated work will bring tangible results to solve the problems facing the industry and cotton. He said that UAF was having the close linkages with the German institutions and ties will be further strengthened with the project. Talking about UAF, He said the UAF had developed a short duration of cotton PB 896 which is under trial and it will prove best variety that would be machine picked. He said that university was making all out efforts to address the problems of the farming community and industry. He said that the agriculture is the backbone of our economy which is directly linked to poverty alleviation. Therefore, it is prerequisite to equip the farming community with modern techniques and trends to make the sector profitable and sustainable. He said that the UAF had produced more than 67000 graduates and 1400 PhDs so far. He said that the university had introduced 48 demand driven new degree programs keeping in view the need of the modern era. He said that the University current enrollment had touched 25000.
