The researchers should come up with problem-solving research and indigenous solutions to challenges facing society and industry, said University of Agriculture Faisalabad Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Iqrar Ahmad Khan. He was addressing appreciation ceremony for technology development funds projects winners arranged by Office of Research, Innovation and Commercialization, University of Agriculture Faisalabad. He urged the researchers to take all possible steps to produce the quality researcher work that will be beneficial for mankind. He said that the researchers should not be piled up in libraries. It must be translated into goods and services. He said that the universities are meant to create the knowledge, produce trained manpower and provide the solutions to the issue in order to move the society and the country towards the development and prosperity. He said UAF outshone in Higher Education Commission Technology Development Fund (TDF) projects and stood first across the country by bagging 11 projects out of 31 under Technology Development Fund to PhD scholars returned from abroad. He said the projects were aimed at developing new technologies to meet the country’s socio-economic needs and address the problem as a step towards development and poverty alleviation. He said under the HEC TDF, as many as 116 scholars submitted their proposals. Out of these, 31 projects were selected for funding after thorough evaluation by HEC’s expert committee. The projects will develop products or services to impact the economy, resolve current problem, utilise local raw material, and to create large scale employment. Expert from US Dr Muhammad Naeem said that quality education and research are vital to alleviate the poverty and bring the prosperity. He said that with the trained manpower and education, we cant meet the challenges of modern era. UAF scholars who won the projects included Faculty of Agri Engineering Dean Dr Allah Buksh, Director Institute of Horticulture Dr Aman Ullah, Department of Physics Chairman Dr Yasir Jamil, Energy System Engineering Department Chairman Dr Anjum Munir, Water Management Research Center Director Dr Hamid Shah, Dr Muhammad Sharif from Department of Animal Sciences, Dr Irfan Afzal from Department of Agronomy, Dr Jahanzeb Masud Cheema from Department of Irrigation and Drainage, Dr Assad Farooq from Department of Fibre and Textile Technology; Dr Waseem Amjad from the Department of Energy System Engineering and Dr Tahseen Azhar from Plant . ORIC Director Dr Zahir A Zahir said that UAF has ever-first Pakistani institution ranked among the top 100 universities in the world; National Taiwan University ranks UAF 72nd best university across the globe; 12th in Asia Pacific. It has secures 90th position worldwide in the subject of Agriculture and Forestry as per QS ranking.
