Like other parts of the county, 70th Independence Day was celebrated with national zeal and enthusiasm at the University of Agriculture Faisalabad. The celebration was chaired by Pro-Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Muhammad Iqbal Zafar while tens of hundreds of UAF community including deans, directors, administrative and teaching staff participated.

Like other parts of the county, 70th Independence Day was celebrated with national zeal and enthusiasm at the University of Agriculture Faisalabad. The celebration was chaired by Pro-Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Muhammad Iqbal Zafar while tens of hundreds of UAF community including deans, directors, administrative and teaching staff participated. The day dawned with special prayers at the Central Mosque for development, peace and progress of the country. Whereas, flag hoisting ceremony was held at Iqbal Auditorium. The ceremony also presented guard of honor to shining students of the Laboratory Girls High School UAF Maira Younas for topping Matriculation Examinations in the Board of Intermediate & Secondary Education and Faiqa Mujtaba for topping 8th class examination in the district. Dr Iqbal Zafar said that the country was achieved after tremendous struggle and sacrifices under unprecedented freedom movement led by Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah that resulted in emergence of an independent Muslim state on the map of the world. He said that a large number of Muslims were martyred in the movement. He said that the largest migration was witnessed as the emergence of the new country. It is our now duty to work dedicately for the progress of our homeland. He was of the view that message of Allama Iqbal and Quaid-Azam must be spread among the youth in order to make prosperity in every field of life. He called for becoming good citizen and good workers. The education is prerequisite for the uplift of the country, he said, adding that we have to promote the education in every corner of Pakistan. He said that it is a matter of concern that literacy rate in the country was only 65 percent. He urged the agri scientists to introduce the new varieties to fight the challenge of feed ever-increasing population which has touched to 220 million. Quoting the example of China, he said that the China got Independence after our two years but now it has become as emerging economy because of education. He said that China was providing scholarship worth billions. He said that we have to produce skills to get the benefit from the CPEC. The students of UAF run Laboratory School System, Day Care Centre and Senior Tutor Office presented mili nagmas and skits before the audience, depicting the color of love for the country and giving the message of peace with the promotion of tolerance among the society. The Pro-Vice Chancellor also gave away the cheaque of Rs 1 lakh and 50 thousands to LHS topper student.
