Individuals have to play their role in the development and safeguard the country in term of defence, economic uplift, and food security, said University of Agriculture Faisalabad Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Muhammad Iqbal Zafar. Like other parts of country, national Defence Day was observed at the UAF with national zeal and enthusiasm. The main ceremony was organized by Office of the Senior Tutor at the Iqbal Auditorium which was packed with tens of the hundreds of the people. The participants renewed pledges to safeguard geographically and ideological boundaries, territorial integrity of the country. The students presented the patriotic songs and delivered heart-touching speeches. They also paid tribute to the martyrs who sacrificed their lives to defend the motherland. Addressing on the occasion, the Vice Chancellor said that the country was achieved after the great sacrifices. Now it is our duty to work dedicatedly for the uplift of the country. He said that in 1965 on this day, Indian forces attacked Pakistan in the darkness of night, but our great armed forces foiled the nefarious designs of the enemies with the unequivocal support of the whole nation. He also saluted the mothers, fathers, sisters, wives and brothers of the martyrs who gave their lives for defending the country. He said that the independence was a great blessing. Now, the duty lies on the shoulder of the nation to move the country to the new horizons of the progress and prosperity. He pointed out that in the era, the people are facing tremendous challenges in term of unemployment, food security, and increasing population etc. He said that with the quality education, dedication and motivation, we have to bring out the country from the clutches of poverty. Prof. Dr. Tahir Siddique, Dr. Athar Javed Khan, Mr. Ihtisham Akbar, Romio, and Mr. Ahmad Kamal also spoke on the occasion. Later, Vice Chancellor flanked by Deans, Directors and tens of thousands students headed an awareness walk to commemorate and highlight the services of the martyrs of the motherland was also organized in the main corridor of the varsity.
