The University of Agriculture Faisalabad on Tuesday organized All Pakistan Intervarsity Wrestling Championship 2016 in which ten universities across the country participated.

The University of Agriculture Faisalabad on Tuesday organized All Pakistan Intervarsity Wrestling Championship 2016 in which ten universities across the country participated. The event was organized by the Directorate of Sports, UAF in collaboration with the Higher Education Commission. Championship was won by University of Central Punjab whereas Punjab University stood second. Islamia University Bahawalpur as well as Superior University got the third position. Ten teams including Punjab University, Lahore; University of Agriculture Faisalabad; Islamia University of Bahawapur; Bahauddin Zakariya University, Multan; GC University Lahore ; Sargodha University; Superior University Lahore; Iqra University Karachi; University of Veterinary and Animals Sciences; and University of Central Punjab Lahore took part in the championship. Speaking as the Chief Guest, UAF Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Iqrar Ahmad Khan said that it is step towards to promote the traditional games among the new generation. He said that University was making all out efforts to flourish the sports culture in the youth as it was showing a declining trend due to change in lifestyle. He also directed the officials concerned to capture the interests of the students in the sports that will make them more active. He said that new sports facilities including basketballs court, gymnasium and grounds are being added to the system. Higher Education Commission Director General Sports Farman Ullah Anjum said that HEC, beside ensuring the quality education and tangible researches at the universities, was making tangible efforts to promote sports. He said that the healthy activities provoke the shinning brains. He said that youth was our assets and we are refurbishing their skills with education and extra curriculum activities. Chairman Sport Board Prof Dr Ehsan-ul-Haq said that UAF is providing the students a proper platform and state of the art facilities to excel their abilities in curricular and extracurricular activities. He said that tremendous new sports facilities are added at the campus. He stressed upon the need to spare at least 30 minutes for sports or exercise in order to lead a healthy life.
