International Women Handball Championship

Nepal and Uzbekistan on Sunday outshine their competitor Pakistan and Maldives respectively in the opening day of 4-day International Women Handball Championship at the University of Agriculture Faisalabad. The Uzbekistan beat Maldives by 32:22 whereas Nepal clinched the victory by defeating Pakistan with 28:25 goals. Five countries including Nepal, Pakistan , Maldives, India and Uzbekistan are taking part in the championship. The tournament will last for four days from March 27 to 30.The tournament was being arranged by Pakistan Handball Federation and UAF. The event was inaugurated by UAF Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Iqrar Ahmad Khan along with Pakistan Handball Federation (PHF) Patron in Chief Captain Syed Abid Hussain Qadari, Pakistan Handball Federation President Haji Shafique and other notables. Prof Dr Iqrar Ahmad Khan said that the championship is meant for giving a message of peace through sports. He said such tournaments would help in bringing the soft image of country and strengthen the people-to-people contact among the SAARC nations. He said that the UAF was taking all possible steps to promote sports activities which was showing a declining trend in the youth due to changing life style. He urged the people to develop the sportsman spirit so that different challenges can be met effectively.On the second day on March 28, the match between Pakistan and India will be played at 9:30 whereas Uzbekistan and Nepal will be played at 3:30 pm and Maldives and India will begin at 5:00 pm. On March 29, the match between Nepal Vs India at 9:30 am,, Uzbekistan Vs Pakistan at 3:30 PM and Maldives Vs Nepal at 5:00pm. On March 30, India Vs Uzbekistan at 2:45 PM, and Pakistan Vs Maldives at 4:15 PM. The medal ceremony will be held at 5:45 pm on March 30.
