Pakistan, which is supposed to be leading its economic growth on the bases of agriculture sector, is faced with negative growth of the sector.

Pakistan, which is supposed to be leading its economic growth on the bases of agriculture sector, is faced with negative growth of the sector. This was stated by University of Agriculture Faisalabad Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Iqrar Ahmad Khan while talking to annual event of FSc ( Pre-Agriculture) at community college, UAF. He said that that agriculture was under the grip of different challenges in term of low productivity, outdated agriculture practices, water scarcity and low income. He said that such kind of induction deserves serious attention on the part of experts, policy makers and all stakeholders to find way to come out from the crisis. He said that agriculture is underperforming and unable to sustain farmers. The farmer is not making profit. He said that it was a matter of concern that due to the situation, the farming community does not want their children opt the agriculture profession.He said that the awareness among the farmers about the latest practices will help in ensuring the food security. He said that the country was blessed with fertile land, four seasons and the hardworking farmers. But traditional way of farming was hampering the process to increase the productivity. He was of the view that the climate changes are the real challenge for which we have to take the measures He praised the efforts being taken by government to uplift the sector and address the problems of farming community. He said that under the college, the degree of FSc (Pre Agriculture) was revived that had been stalled 35 years ago in which state-of-the-art facilities were being provided to the students. Principal UAF Community College Dr Ijaz Ahmad Bhatti said revival of FSc pre agriculture will ensure the dedicated manpower in the field who are committed to serve the sector. He said that all-out efforts were being made to refurbish the skills of students.
