The University of Agriculture Faisalabad’s Academic Council has approved new degree programs including four programs for Burewala sub-campus to face the challenges of modern era and to provide quality education to dwellers at their doorstep.

The University of Agriculture Faisalabad’s Academic Council has approved new degree programs including four programs for Burewala sub-campus to face the challenges of modern era and to provide quality education to dwellers at their doorstep. The meeting was chaired by UAF Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Iqrar Ahmad Khan where Registrar Muhammad Hussain presented the agenda. The meeting also approved introducing sports course of three-credit hour in all degree program as optional subject. The degree programmes approved for Burewala include MSc Economics, MSc Sociology, MSc Chemistry and MSc Botany. Entomology as major course for BSs (Agriculture) will also be launched at Burewala Campus. MSc Zoology for Toba Tek Singh sub-campus is also being launched keeping in the view the need of the area. The Vice Chancellor said such initiatives are meant for providing quality education to the locals at the doorstep. The new programs for the UAF Main Campus include MPhil Epidemiology and Public Health, MSc Seed Science and Technology, MBA Executive Programs and certificate titled ‘One Health’. He expressed his concern that although the country was having the surplus food but 40 percent of the population was facing the malnutrition. He viewed that the UAF was taking tangible measures to fight with the challenges by initiating new programs like public health; and one health etc. He said that no country can make the development without ensuring the quality education and trained manpower that are pivotal to achieve the goal. He said that the country was blessed with tremendous talents but we had failed to tap the potential owing to low literacy rates and unskilled manpower. There is the need to refurbish the students’ skills that will help the country alleviate the poverty. He also urged the teaching community to come up with out-of-the-box solutions to the problems of common man with the help of research and development work. He showed his concern that the researches should not be piled up in the libraries. It must be translated into goods and service to benefit the people and industry. He also appreciated the UAF Assistant Professor Dr. Muhammad Naveed, for wining Young Development Leader Award (Agriculture Category) announced by Ministry of Planning, Development and Reforms. The investiture ceremony was held on August 11, 2016 at Pak-China Center, Islamabad in which Dr. Muhammad Naveed was decorated with Young Development Leader Award
