As many as University of Agriculture Faisalabad’s 50 scholars are being sent to foreign universities to peruse their PhDs degrees as an initiative of Punjab Chief Minister Mian Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif.

As many as University of Agriculture Faisalabad’s 50 scholars are being sent to foreign universities to peruse their PhDs degrees as an initiative of Punjab Chief Minister Mian Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif.He lauded the steps being taken on the part of government to promote education and to address the issues of agriculture sector. He said that under the scheme, 1000 people applied for the PhDs abroad. After the test and panel interview, 50 best minds are shortlisted for the foreign scholarship. He added that Punjab Education Endowment Fund, Kissan package and other initiatives are hallmark steps to alleviate the poverty and hunger from the country. He showed his concern that 40 percent of our total population was malnourished that was a real challenge for the government, policy makers and other stakeholder. He urged the scientists to come up with the doable solutions to the problems of the farming community. He added that without ensuring quality education, we can’t compete with the rest of the world. He was of the view that the UAF was also planning send 10 more scholars abroad for PhDs in the different fields including Energy, Social Health, Fisheries, food safety, one health/ public health, soil classification, software engineering , and others. He said not only for overseas UAF is also investing 250 million rupees on Department of Information Technology in which new computer labs, lecture rooms, software houses and more other equipment will be generated. He added that 100 UAF teachers will be trained about latest agriculture and teaching practices in collaboration with University of California Davis, USA.
