Training on Agri. Production Systems SIMulator Modeling begins

US Pakistan Center for Advanced Studies in Agriculture and Food Security, University of Agriculture Faisalabad on Tuesday kicked off three-day hands-on training titled Agricultural Production Systems SIMulator Modeling. The inaugural session was chaired by UAF Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Iqrar Ahmad Khan while Director US Pakistan CAS-AFS Prof Dr Bashir Ahmad, USPCAS Climate Change Chair Dr Ashfaq Ahmad Chattha, Dr Shahid Majeed and other notables also spoke on the inaugural session. Prof Dr Iqrar Ahmad Khan said inter-province harmony is prerequisite to safeguard our national interests and to fight the different challenges including poverty, food insecurity, climate changes, water scarcity and low agricultural productivity. He said that agriculture was facing major risks due to higher average temperature, sea level, glacial retreats, floods, and frequency of droughts. The yields of crops are expected to decrease in the years to come not only because of flooding, but also due to rise in temperatures. He said that the UAF was committed to promote inter province harmony and organizes 500 events a year. Director CAS-AFS Prof Dr Bashir Ahmad said that livelihood of agriculture areas are being severely affected by climate change. He said that there is a need for strengthening early warning systems and enhancing community preparedness. He said that the CAS-AFS was making all out effort USPCAS Climate Change Chair Dr Ashfaq Ahmad Chattha said that both pumping water in both rural and urban population are suffering from water contamination and waterborne diseases. He said that we all should be ensure of proper water and sanitation in a proper mannered.
