UAf Sociology Expert Dr. Izhar Ahmad Khan Inaugurates Community Outreach Center at Chak No. 45-GD, Okara Under USPCAS-AFS. USAID funded U.S.-Pakistan Center for Advanced Studies in Agriculture and Food Security has opened a Community Outreach Center at Chak No. 45-GD Okara in order to transfer technology purposes at the door step of Farming community. Center was aimed at to connect rural population with University of Agriculture Faisalabad (UAF) scientific community for resolving their problems with innovative solutions through Information and Communication Technologies. UAF Rural Sociology Expert Dr. Izhar Ahmad Khan inaugurated Community Outreach Center along with other scientist from the varsity. While addressing the inaugural ceremony Dr. Izhar Ahmad Khan said that UAF was striving for transferring technology at the door step of farmers in order to provide them New Agronomic packages keeping in view global warming and climatic change scenario. He added that Okara has been producing high quality Corn and Potato at National level so that USPCAS-AFS has decided to open this Community Center in this area. Dr. Khan said outreach Activities would be taken place in the center for next three years. USPCAS-AFS Outreach Chair Dr. Baber Shahbaz said that through this center we will provide virtual learning services to the farmers. Whereas Farmers gatherings would also be held time to time at this center for face to face interaction with UAF Scientists. He maintained that this Center will be a hub of activity for various communities. He said that Messaging Services would also be extended for the residents of this area through android apps. UAF Scientist Dr. Qamar Bilal and Dr. Immad gave advises to the farming community regarding livestock management. Prof Dr. Saeed Ahmad talked about Fruit and vegetable agronomic practices. Mr. Muhammad Imran briefed about ICT and its implications in order to boost agricultural productivity. Agricultural Extension expert Mian Pervez and Local farmer Master Safdar also Spoke on the Occasion.
