The University of Agriculture Faisalabad and Tetra Pak Pakistan Limited on Thursday inked a Memorandum of Understanding to work jointly for addressing the challenges in dairy sector.

The University of Agriculture Faisalabad and Tetra Pak Pakistan Limited on Thursday inked a Memorandum of Understanding to work jointly for addressing the challenges in dairy sector. The MoU was duly inked by UAF Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Iqrar Ahmad Khan and Tetra Pak Director Marketing Assad Abbas. Dean Faculty of Food Sciences Prof Dr Masood Sadiq Butt and Director External Linkage Dr Rasheed along with other UAF officials also attended the meeting. The Tetra Pak also handed over a milk analysis machine to National Institute of Food Science and Technology. The milk machines will analysis the quality of milk in term of protein, fat, freezing point, conductivity , lactore and other factors. According to the agreement, it was agreed upon to strengthen academic and industry linkages between the both institutions. They will also share resources, students, and technology for the research projects. The Tetra Pak will enhance the analytical capabilities of laboratory at the Faculty. The tetra Pak will also provide an opportunity for the students for internship. Talking to delegation, UAF Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Iqrar Ahmad Khan said that more than 90 percent of milk remained unprocessed that is unhealthy for the consumers. He said that the mechanism should be devised to process the milk by setting up small processing units at the village level. He also suggested promoting the chillers for the milk men who are bringing the milk from rural areas to the cities. He stressed upon the need for enhanced collaboration between the both institutions especially in the area of milk and value addition. He said that artificial insemination was facing the set back due to unskilled technicians in the field. There is the need to equip them with the skills and modern trend to get the benefit from AI. Assad Abbas said that the collaborated work would bring the tangible results. He said that milk quality in the county was facing the nutritive issue due to non-processing and adulterations. He said that the collaboration with UAF would help get the guidelines to improve the issue. He also called for addressing the problem of AI in the country.
