The World Space Week was observed at the University of Agriculture Faisalabad, featuring the different programs including water rocket competition, an awareness walk, and a central function at the Iqbal Auditorium in which school students from 40 schools across the district participated.

The World Space Week was observed at the University of Agriculture Faisalabad, featuring the different programs including water rocket competition, an awareness walk, and a central function at the Iqbal Auditorium in which school students from 40 schools across the district participated. The inaugural session was chaired by UAF Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Iqrar Ahmad Khan while the event was organized by UAF and Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO). Addressing on the occasion, Prof Dr Iqrar Ahmad Khan said in the technological world, the space sciences had been playing an active role in fighting different challenges including floods, new diseases and droughts etc. He said that the earth satellites were being widely used to identifying, and forecasting the natural disaster. He said that now we can identify the rainfall and other trends and its impact on human as well as on agriculture and we can take the precautionary measures. He said that the theme for 2016: “Remote Sensing: Enabling Our Future,” which celebrates earth observation from space for the betterment of the human. He said that UN general Assembly declared the first Space Week in 1999 and it is being observed with a different theme every year. He said the Space Week offered an exciting opportunity for students to explore new avenues for their future. SUPARCO Agri Information Center Director Dr Ijaz Ahmad said that technology brings lot of benefit to our modern world. Since the era of space age, the space technology has brought more benefit to the mankind than any technological advancement in the world. In fact no other technology and scientific breakthrough more benefit to everyday lives than the space technology. He said that entire communication of the world was depended on the satellite system and we are now able to watch TV, internet etc. Director Research Dr Aslam Mirza said that the space sciences was playing a pivoral role in our lives. The world had become a global village due to this advancement. Principal Office Laboratory School System Prof Dr Khalil Ur Rehman and subject specialist Maqbool Rehmani also spoke on the occasion.
