The Chief Minister's Special Monitoring Unit organized Women Motorcycle riders rally under Women on Wheels Project at the University of Agriculture Faisalabad. The rally started from Main Gate of the University and culminated on the same spot after passing through University Road ,Zila Council Chowk and Halal Ahmar chowk. Punjab Law Minister Rana Sanaullah Khan, Senior Member Special Monitoring Unit Salman Sufi, UAF Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Iqrar Ahmad Khan and DCO Salman Ghani led the motorcycle rally by riding the motorcycles. Parliamentarians Khalida Mansoor, Madeha Rana and Dr.Najma Afzal; CTO Arif Shahbaz Khan Wazeer, representatives of civil society . More than 60 trained motorcycle riders women graduates participated in the rally. Earlier a certificate distribution ceremony was held at New Senate Hall of UAF. Addressing to the ceremony, Punjab Law Minister Rana Sanaullah Khan said government was taking revolutionary steps to empower the women and various steps are initiated including Women on Wheels. He said that Women Protection Act was also part of measures taken by Punjab Govt for the safety and development of the women. He said Women on Wheels is another remarkable project of Special Monitoring Unit under the CM directions which has been taken to make the women self reliance for their movement to reach the place of employment, Schools ,University and other sites for their domestic necessities. The Law Minister said that it is the need of hour to engage them in economic activities and to fight taboos being made on gender discrimination. He said CM Punjab Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif has approved Rs 100 million for providing support to motorcycle riders women. The more funds would also be provided in case of further need. He congratulated the women those have completed their Motorcycle riding training successfully and asked them to promote the culture of riding herself and respect the Traffic rules, decency and Islamic norms during driving. He said Dolphan Force has been working efficiently in Lahore and soon this force would be introduced in Faisalabad which would help decrease the street crimes and the protection of women while riding on road via Motorcycle as well. Senior Member Special Monitoring Unit Salman Sufi said women on wheel sproject has been initiated by the Special Monitoring Unit Chief Minister office in Sargodha, Lahore, Faisalabad, Rawalpindi and Multan ,in collaboration with City District Govt , City Traffic Police. He said this project is set to expand to all 36 districts of Punjab and aims to create motorcycles as a norm for female mobility in the public space. He said that a mega rally would be held at Lahore on 27th November in which all Women-on-Wheels graduates from all 5 districts would be invited to participate. UAF Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Iqrar Ahmad Khan said UAF had managed to distribute more than 600 bicycles among the women students with the cooperation of local industrial group in order to promote this culture. He informed that two mega projects of girls hostels having the capacity of one thousand boarders each were being completed which was prominent step of women development and welfare. DCO Salman Ghani said women on wheels program in Faisalabad was the commendable step to encourage the women for riding the motorcycle. He urged the women to get the benefit from the program and to become an active member of society in term of socio economic activities .He assured full cooperation of district government to make women on wheels program a success.
