University of Agriculture Faisalabad Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Iqrar Ahmad Khan on Monday called for developing book reading habit, especially in the youth, which is showing a declining trend. He was inaugurating the Book and Magazine Display Board set up near the main library, UAF. He was flanked by all deans, Books and Magazine Office Incharge Dr Shahzad Basra and other notables. The Vice Chancellor showed his concern that books reading habit was decreasing among the youth. He said that in the modern era, the people are glued to cell phones, internet and TV sets etc. Keeping in view, the University had initiated massive open online courses to disseminate the knowledge through the modern technologies. Terming the books an important source of knowledge in the era of technology, he said that only books could eradicate injustices and social disparities. He said that the country was blessed with tremendous resources. There is a need to tap the potential. He said that quality education was the engine of bright future. The university was making all possible steps to ensure the quality education in the country. Dr Shahazad Basra said such event primates a habit among people of book reading which eventually ensured development of nation. He said that this kind of activity always promoted tolerance, harmony and love to put an end to hatred.
