All agricultural and research institutes should make collaborated efforts to combat the daunting problems of the agricultural sector and farming community, said University of Agriculture Faisalabad (UAF) Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Iqrar Ahmad Khan,

He expressed this during a meeting with a six-member delegation of farmers of Sindh. He said UAF scientists of are collaborating with the farmers of all the provinces across the country to promote the modern trends that will help address the issue of food security and increase the per acre production. He said that Pakistans per acre yield is lower than that of developed countries in which it is inevitable to adopt modern methods of cultivation to increase growth and make agriculture profitable. He said that UAF along with IBA Sukkur launched a four-year BS program. He said that a training workshop was organized for the farmers of Balochistan at UAF . Sindh Chamber of Agriculture General Secretary Zahid Hussain lamented that despite being an agricultural country agricultural commodities worth Rs. 7.1 trillion were imported which need to be addressed through a coordinated strategy. He said that a national level conference should be held in Sindh next month in which the farmers from each district of the Punjab will participate. Prof Dr Javed Akhtar Dean Faculty of Agriculture UAF said that the farmers can increase yield by ensuring soil analysis for the soil fertility. He stressed upon the need to implement the recommendations of agricultural experts. He said that the university was cooperating with agricultural research and higher education institutions of Sindh. Focal Person Prof Dr Jalal Arif said that they had convened a national level conference on cotton in 2019 which had resulted in tangible steps to address the problems of cotton farmers. He said that a policy should be formulated to curtail the cultivation of sugarcane and rice in the cotton area. Prof Dr Shahzad Basra said that he university was actively working on the seed development and to address the problems of faming community.
