South Africa High Commissioner to Pakistan Mpendulo Jele has said that Pakistan and South Africa strengthened ties especially in the field of education and agriculture would help them learn from each other experiences. He was talking to University of Agriculture Faisalabad Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Iqrar Ahmad Khan. He was flanked by Deputy High Commissioner Mike Bassan. High Commissioner Mpendulo Jele also discussed the avenue of kicking off student exchanges programme between UAF and the universities of his country that will further strengthen the mutual ties. He said that his county was the major exporter of mango. The collaboration with Pakistan in mangoes would help Pakistan to increase the productivity. UAF Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Iqrar Ahmad Khan said that UAF was running many research and academic exchange programme with different institutes across the globe. He said that the students exchange programe with South Africa would help strengthen the ties. He said that agriculture is the backbone of our country and the UAF was taking all tangible steps to ensure food security. He said Pakistan was producing good quality mangoes with many varieties but there is the deficiency of value chain. He said that quantity of mango get rotten due to non-availability of proper storage which can be improved with the usage of processing technology and preserving methods. He said that UAF had identified ten new indigenous mango varieties to increase production, fight diseases, and to grab international market. He added that the work was being done to cope with disease of the sudden death of mango. He said the UAF was running the research projects worth Rs 2 billion
