Humans are deteriorating the environment from its own hands in term of irrational usage of natural resources, deforestation and pollution, resulting in changing climate that have pushed the world into many disasters.

Humans are deteriorating the environment from its own hands in term of irrational usage of natural resources, deforestation and pollution, resulting in changing climate that have pushed the world into many disasters. This was said by University of Agriculture Faisalabad Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Iqrar Ahmad Khan while addressing to participants of a seminar and walk held in connection with Earth Day. It was arranged by the Institute of Soil and Environmental Sciences. Addressing on the occasion, the Vice Chancellor said that the tangible steps were needed to face up to the challenges of the environment. He said that like other part of the world, Pakistan is confronted with a number of severe environmental problems such as degradation of natural resources and human health, vehicular and industrial pollution, effluent of industry, water scarcity, deforestation, population growth and air and water pollution, solid waste management, etc, are also some of the few prominent environmental challenges. He said that unplanned increase in urbanisation and industrialisation had led to pollution in air, water, and land. Dean Faculty of Agriculture Prof Dr Muhammad Arshad said that it is our responsibility to ensure that the land we live in and the air we breathe is clean enough to sustain survival of this generation and the next. He said that the soil fertility was weakening while the deforestation, massive pollution, melting of glacier and depleting ozone layer can wipe out parts of the world if the adaptive measures not taken The Institute Director Prof Dr Javed Akhtar said today the fifty percent of the population lives in the cities. As the population urban population grows, the effect of climate changes worsen. Therefore the workshop was themed at green cities. Dean FJWU Prof Dr Uzaira Rafique called for bringing meaningful change in a way that how we use natural resources, the effect those things have on the environment and how we dispose things. Abdur Rehman, Project Director, Pakistan Nuclear Regulatory Authority and Dr Muhammad Amir Maqsood from UAF also spoke on the occasion. The awareness walk in this connection started from the Admin Block and ended at Faculty of Agriculture, UAF.
