Women play a pivotal role in the development of a society who remain busy in performing domestic and economic activities from dawn to dusk, said Prof Dr Bashir Ahmad, Director, Centre for Advanced Studies in Agriculture and Food Security and former Vice Chancellor, University of Agriculture Faisalabad.

Women play a pivotal role in the development of a society who remain busy in performing domestic and economic activities from dawn to dusk, said Prof Dr Bashir Ahmad, Director, Centre for Advanced Studies in Agriculture and Food Security and former Vice Chancellor, University of Agriculture Faisalabad. He was chairing a seminar on women empowerment held in connection with World Women Day at New Senate Hall, UAF. Like other part of country and the globe, the World Women Day was observed at the University with zeal and enthusiasm. In this regard, an awareness walk and a seminar were arranged. T Dr Bashir Ahmad said that the education for women was essential for a progressed country as the education play an imperative role in the uplift of any society. He said that world population has touched to seven billion. Out of which, half of them were women. Talking about UAF, he said that 140 teaching staff of the varsity were women. He said women empowerment was prerequisite to achieve sustainable development and prosperity. Principal Officer Students Affairs Dr Muhammad Yonus that women are playing an intensive role not only as a house keeper but also as the working force. He praised the government for taking tangible initiatives for women empowerment. Institute of Rural Home Economics Chairperson Naheed Abbas said half of the population consists of women. She said that that the University was making all tangible steps to provide the modern facilities to the women. Entrepreneur Sheba Sarwar said that Islam attaches great importance to women and provide them excellent rights. Dr Noureen Rana said that women need to explore their inbuilt leadership qualities. Dr Bushra Sadia lauded the role of women in socioeconomic activities, which is vital to compete with the rest of the world. She urged the women to prove their mettle in every sphere of life. Lecturer Rabia Faridi said that in the modern world, the women are standing with shoulder to shoulder to men in the socio-economic activities. The participants also took out a walk to raise the awareness among the women. Sobia Roz, Anum Safdar, Shoab Aziz, girls from Laboratory High School also spoke on the occasion. The walk led by Prof Dr Bashir Ahmad along with Dr Naheed Abbas, Dr Muhammad Younas, Dr Bushra Sadia, Dr Jalal Arif and others were taken out from Admin Block to Faculty of Social Sciences.
