The University of Agriculture Faisalabad has set up new faculty titled Faculty of Food, Nutrition and Home Sciences in order to address the malnutrition, promote value-added products, halal food science and to train manpower for the emerging food industry.

The University of Agriculture Faisalabad has set up new faculty titled Faculty of Food, Nutrition and Home Sciences in order to address the malnutrition, promote value-added products, halal food science and to train manpower for the emerging food industry. This was stated by said University of Agriculture Faisalabad Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Iqrar Ahmad Khan while was chairing the meeting of Graduate Studies Research Board arranged at the National Institute of Food Sciences and Technology (NIFSAT). Prof Dr Masood Sadiq Butt has assumed the charge the office of the Dean of Faculty. The Vice Chancellor said that establishment of the Faculty was need of the hour keeping in view the issue of malnutrition and the demand of food industry. He said quality education, gender mainstreaming and demand-driven researches will pave the way of development and help in coping with unemployment, poverty etc. He said that no nation can progress without ensuring the quality education. He urged the staff to take all tangible steps in order to maintain quality education and to hone the skills of students. He said that current enrolment of the varsity was standing at 19,000 which was only 7000 students a couple of years ago. He said that active participation of women, comprising 52 percent of the population was imperative to compete with the rest of the world. He said that the University has mapped out a plan to launch a degree on gender development to produce the train manpower. He said that the research portfolio of the UAF has touched Rs 6 billion which speaks the trust of industry and international agencies on the UAF quality research work. Registrar Muhammad Hussain, Treasurer Umar Saeed, all deans and directors, controller of examinations were present on the occasion. Director Graduate Studies Dr Haq Nawaz conducted the session.
