The University of Agriculture Faisalabad has opened drama festival that will continue till December 16 in which five renowned national theater groups are taking part. On the opening day of festival, Akhiyan drama was presented by Azad Theater, Lahore depicting traditions and social barriers. The drama, written in 1930 by Rafi Pir, was revolving around spiritual experiences and romanticism. The performance was highly appreciated by gathering of tens of hundreds of drama lovers who thronged the University to get the colors of aesthetics. The inaugural session of the festival was chaired by UAF Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Iqrar Ahmad Khan. It is arranged by the Office of Senior Tutor, UAF in which Azad Theater, Ajoka Theater, Sangat Theater, Mass Theater and Art Club, UAF are performing dramas titled Akhiyan; Bulah; Heer; Guddo; and Khota Sikka respectively at Iqbal Auditorium, UAF every evening. Addressing on the occasion, UAF Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Iqrar Ahmad Khan said that the society was facing different social ailments including impatience, race and rigidity. He said on the other hand, it was also alarming that today youth is much inspired by the culture of west that is marring our roots. He said that the youth must be educated about our rich norms and values, heritage, identity so that we can keep our integrity intact in the world. He said that the country was blessed with tremendous talents which must be explored. He added that the University was making all-out efforts to provide a platform to the students to exhibit their God-given skills. He also informed the gathering that the university was used to hold twice festivals a year, Art and Literature Festival, International Tent Pegging tournaments etc as initiatives to promote the literary and sports activities. He maintained that tradition of staging classical dramas at the varsity has been revived after thirty years.
