The odour of intolerance and social ailments in the society can be rooted out with the fragrance of brotherhood, integrity and patience, said UAF Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Iqrar Ahmad Khan. The Vice Chancellor along with District Coordination Officer Noorul Amin Mengal on Friday formally inaugurated 3-day flower exhibition set up at the University of Agriculture Faisalabad. It remained a centre of attraction for flower lovers who thronged the varsity to enjoy winter colors. All senior management of the varsity participated at the event. It was arranged by the Institute of Horticultural Sciences (IHS), UAF. Prof Dr Iqrar Ahmad Khan said the exhibition was meant to spread the message of peace and brotherhood in the society. He said that the intolerance was showing an increasing trend that must be tackled with harmony and love. Talking about UAF initiative for floriculture, he said that experts of the University in floriculture and landscape were providing consultancy to the government and private organizations for the beautification of different cities. He said we had developed a variety of Rosa Sentifolia with amazing fragrance and a large amount of essential contents. He said the UAF has set up the Rosa Lab containing essential oil plants to extract the flower perfume. We are introducing new fragrances of perfume including marwa and citrus to promote the technology across the country. DCO Noorul Amin Mengal said that flowers were the symbol of love, peace and beatification. He said that the District Government was making all-out effort for the beautification of the city with plants, which are a gift of nature. He told the gathering that as many as Rs 40 million had been earmarked for reshaping Canal Road’s green belts and make these lush green on the pattern of Lahore. He added that as many as Rs 50 million has been allocated for the beatification of different parks in the city. He said that a new model park coupled with Stadium named Shahbaz Sharif Park was being established at Jhang Road in order to provide modern recreational activities. IHS Director Prof Dr Aslam Pervez briefed the guests about the flower arrangements and themes arranged by the students. Multiple varieties of winter flowers especially chrysanthemum; and ornaments plants went on display that were placed in mounds and stalls. A separate section of rangoli attracted a large number of spectators. The University Departments’ students and other organisations including Ayub Agricultural Research Institute, NIAB, Sitara Chemicals and others exhibited their skills in arranging the flowers.
