Speakers at a seminar on Tuesday called for joint efforts on the part of all segments of society to iron out corruption, nepotism, discrimination, plagiarism and dishonesty from the country. The seminar and poster, painting and slogans competitions were arranged at the University of Agriculture Faisalabad in connection with Anti-corruption Day. The event was organized by Public Relations and Publications and Institute of Rural Home Economics, UAF. Addressing on the occasion, UAF Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Iqrar Ahmad Khan said that the teachers and parents played a pivotal role in the character-building of any society. He added that if intellectuals become corrupt, it means that there is no hope of getting rid from the menace. He urged the people to become honest, hardworking and pay their duty with dedication. He said: “the corruption means not only a financial fraud. If anyone avoids its responsibilities, it is also a kind of corruption.” Dean Prof Dr Iqbal Zafar said positive attitude was the prerequisite to bring the prosperity. He said there is the need to change people attitudes because negative behaviors works as catalysts of corruption. He said that Islam is the religion of peace and give us complete guideline to spend a balanced life. He called for promoting habit of speaking the truth in the society. Office of Research Innovation and Commercialization Director Prof Dr Asif Ali called for finding out the causes of the corruption. He said that social scientists should come forward for conducting tangible researches on the issue and its solutions. He said that it will help devise a comprehensive strategy to fight the menace. He said that mistrust among the people was also aggravating the situation. Senior Tutor Prof Dr Aslam Pervez said that the human attitude was the main thing which needs to be worked out to bring positive changes. He said that it was the matter of concern that many intellectuals voiced against the corruption lived hand to mouth whereas the people who were minting money spend the luxurious life. He said that there is the dire need to bring the changes in our behaviors as the nation by getting guidelines from Islam. Principal Officer Public Relations and Publications Prof Dr Jalal Arif said that corruption affects all countries, undermining institutions, stunting economic development. He said media plays important functions, not just exposing corruption but also sustaining an open and transparent flow of information. He said it is an occasion to reiterate pledge, individually and collectively, to curb the menace of corruption. Director Faisalabad Arts Council Tariq Javed urged the educational institutions to raise the awareness among the masses about the deteriorating affects of corruption in the society.
