Research Areas: Dr. Muhammad Umar Zafar Khan is an Assistant Professor at the Institute of Microbiology, University of Agriculture Faisalabad, Pakistan. He earned his PhD in Preventive Veterinary Science (Microbiology and Molecular Biology) from the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences (CAAS), Beijing, China, under the prestigious Chinese Government Scholarship. He has extensive teaching, research, and international collaboration experience across Pakistan, China, and Central Asia. Dr. Khan's research integrates medical microbiology, molecular diagnostics, antimicrobial resistance (AMR), microbial genomics, molecular epidemiology, infectious diseases, and One Health to address emerging global health challenges. His work focuses on understanding pathogen biology, developing rapid diagnostic tools, investigating antimicrobial resistance mechanisms, and applying genomic technologies for disease surveillance and public health. He has published more than 22 peer-reviewed research articles, the majority in internationally recognized Q1 journals, and serves as a reviewer for several leading scientific journals, including journals published by Elsevier, Frontiers, Springer Nature, MDPI, and the Pakistan Veterinary Journal. He is also the Global Curator of the PubMLST Clostridium perfringens database, contributing to international pathogen surveillance and genomic data curation. Dr. Khan has received several prestigious international recognitions, including the Talented Young Scientist Program (TYSP) Fellowship awarded by the Ministry of Science and Technology of China and the Chinese Government Scholarship. In recognition of his academic contributions, he has been appointed Honorary Master's Research Supervisor at Hebei Normal University of Science and Technology, China, and has served as a Visiting Subject Expert in Microbiology. At the University of Agriculture Faisalabad, Dr. Khan teaches undergraduate and postgraduate courses in microbiology, molecular biology, infectious diseases, antimicrobial resistance, immunology, One Health, and public health microbiology. He actively supervises postgraduate research and is committed to mentoring the next generation of scientists through innovative teaching, research excellence, and interdisciplinary collaboration.
