Prof. Dr. Zain Ul Abdin

Professor
Department of Entomology
Full Name: Prof. Dr. Zain Ul Abdin
Designation: Professor
Qualification: Post-Doc
Specialization: Insect control/vector Borne diseases/Insect Biotechnology/Molecular Biology/Bioinsecticides/gene expression/IPM/Bioinsectcides/Insect farming (Black soldier fly), Forensic Entomology etc.
Research Areas: Research Focus of Prof. Zain’s Laboratory "Insect Molecular Biology Lab” (IMBL). is on developing innovative plant protection strategies (biopesticides) to support sustainable food security. The lab employs an integrated approach of insect functional genomics, proteomics, biochemistry, and physiology to develop effective and environmentally sustainable insect pest management tools. A key area of research involves isolating and characterizing biologically active molecules from the venom of insects and spiders for their potential as novel insecticidal agents, which are then incorporated into eco-friendly/green pest management IPM models. In addition to insect pest control, IMBL also explores complementary research areas such as organic waste management and the sustainable production of poultry feed using the Black Soldier Fly (Hermetia illucens). The lab is also engaged in innovative mosquito management strategies based on Wolbachia., Forensic Entomology for criminal investigation by detemring PMI (post mortum interval) by flesh flies etc
