Full Name: Dr. Rashad Rasool Khan
Designation: Associate Professor
Qualification: Ph.D.
Specialization: Entomology (Insect Toxicology and Insecticide Resistance Management in insects)
Research Areas: Chemical control plays a vital role in integrated pest management, assisting farmers in eliminating economically significant crop pests. However, inadequate pesticide application can lead to various issues related to pest control, human health, and environmental pollution. The development of insecticide resistance is a serious concern, and mitigating it presents an ongoing challenge for scientists. My research focuses on determining and understanding the mechanisms behind the development of insect resistance and evaluating the biocidal efficacy of insecticides against major pest insects and their toxicity to natural enemies. Assessing insecticide resistance and exploring ways to reduce it is another aspect of my research plan. During my stay in the Sultanate of Oman, I led a project aimed at addressing resistance management for the Dubas bug. We also investigated the toxicity of certain insecticides against Trichogramma sp., which are commonly used for Lepidopteran control. Additionally, we explored challenges related to insecticidal toxicity and resistance development in managing the Red Palm Weevil in the Sultanate. Projects concerning insecticide toxicity, efficacy, and resistance are being conducted through individual and student research, as well as collaborative efforts.
