Competitiveness is the driving force of today’s world and Higher Education Commission is a catalyst of growth striving hard to make the youth a pride of the nation and always focus to build the capacity of students and faculty, thereby to make them competitive globally. Said Ms Zia Batool, Director General, Quality Assurance, Higher Education Commission, Islamabad while addressing a launching ceremony of the website of Pakistan Entomologist here at Video Conference Room of the University. Ms Zia Batool said UAF is a high reflection in quality education and a lion shareholder of the committee evaluating the agricultural journals in Pakistan. She said Pakistan Entomologist is equally competitive rather batter in the national journals and vowed to uplift its category from z to at least x adding that as they improved, they deserve such an encouragement. She congratulated the editorial board of Pakistan Entomologist, and said that PE is the first journal carrying out such exemplary activities of the modern time that needs to be appreciated and urged the editorial board to maintain the quality standards in future which they had set during the last one year. Appreciating a large participation of students in the launching ceremony of website of the Pakistan Entomologist, Ms Zia emphasized the other departments of the university to involve their students in writing good quality research papers and projects as quality is the recognition of the merit and always speaks lauder than the words. She was of the view that there are some flaws in the evaluation process of the journals that need to be rectified keeping in view the performance, readership, foreign reviews, online submission of papers and full access to journals. She asked the Deputy Director Quality Assurance HEC to ask other universities to develop such type of website of the respective journals and also link the PE with other journals’ link. She said consequences upon the Saudi Government’s request Quality Assurance Cell of HEC has prepared a draft policy of quality mechanism for whole Islamic world and going to present the same in the forthcoming meeting of OIC in Jeddah on October 6-8, 2012 for getting approval. Earlier, presenting the welcome address, Editor In Chief Prof. Dr. Muhammad Jalal Arif said owing to constant and kind patronage of UAF VC Prof. Dr. Iqrar Ahmad Khan, all members of editorial board are discharging their duties with passion and vigor. He acknowledged the role of his predecessors who left a great legacy that he along with his young team carrying on by making numerous pleasant advancements. Dr. Jalal said they increased the readership of the journal adding that by getting international reviews, website updates, and online submission of research papers, now the journal has become up to the mark of an International Standard hence the scientists from USA, Turkey, Jordan, UK, Australia, Korea etc are eager to publish their research endeavors in the Pakistan Entomologist which is a hallmark of its acclaimed quality. Mr. Hakim Ali Talpur, Deputy Director Quality Assurance, HEC apprised the participants about the quality assurance mechanism of HEC and hoped that in view of the significant quality improvement, the Pakistan Entomologist would earn better category in the days to come.
