Under the leadership of Vice Chancellor Dr Zulfiqar Ali, International Symposium on Antimicrobial Use and Resistance in Food Animals was held at the University of Agriculture Faisalabad (UAF), organized by the Institute of Microbiology, UAF. Dr. Muhammad Akram (Animal Husbandry Commissioner, MoNFS&R, Pakistan) and Prof. Dr. Lothar Kreienbrock (University of Veterinary Medicine Hannover, Germany) graced the event as Chief Guest and Guest of Honour, respectively. Dr. Sandra Brogden (University of Veterinary Medicine Hannover) introduced VetCab-ID, highlighting data-driven antimicrobial usage monitoring. Experts discussed FAO initiatives, case studies on antibiotic resistance in Pakistan, and the One-Health Y-Model integrating human, animal, and environmental health. Prof. Dr. Lothar Kreienbrock emphasized the need for international collaboration in tackling AMR through standardized surveillance systems. Dr. Mashkoor Mohsin Gilani, the symposium's focal person, stressed that AMR is a One Health issue requiring regular monitoring. Experts, researchers, and policymakers from Pakistan and Germany participated, contributing to solutions for AMR in livestock and poultry.
