FAISALABAD July 8: The Asian Development Bank (ADB), Senior Natural Resource and Agriculture Specialist Noriko Sato and Shingo Kimura, Principal Co-Mission Leader visited the University of Agriculture Faisalabad (UAF) and called on Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Zulfiqar Ali. They discussed agriculture sector, climate change impacts and food security. Director ORIC, Prof Dr M. Imran Arshad and Prof. Dr. Jafar Jaskani also attended the meeting. Norkio Sato lauded the university for taking tangible steps to reform agriculture sector in wake of climate change. She said that ADB is supporting low carbon agriculture mechanization project in Punjab for 5 years having speed breeding, Hitech lab training and GHGs emission measurement in field/lab. Prof Dr Zulfiqar Ali said that university has long collaboration with ADB that is taking progressive steps to mitigate and adapt to changing climate for agriculture productivity. He said that agriculture sector was in the grip of climate changes, water scarcity, deteriorating soil health and others. He said that collaborative efforts are need of the hour to increase the protection and sustainable agriculture uplift.
