FAISALABAD October 10: The University of Agriculture Faisalabad marked world egg day with theme, “The Mighty Egg: Packed with Natural Nutrition”, celebrating the egg’s unique ability to deliver essential nutrients in a simple and accessible form. UAF Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Zulfiqar Ali along with Dean Faculty of Animal Husbandry Dr Qamar Bilal, Director Institute of Animal and Dairy Sciences Dr Muhammad Riaz , Dr Muhammad Yousuf and others inaugurated Egg Day celebrations arranged by Faculty of Animal Husbandry in which students displayed the stalls of 30 egg dishes. Moreover Faculty of Veterinary Sciences, UAF also celebrated the Day with seminar and egg dishes. Dr Zulfiqar Ali said that eggs must be made the essential part of our intake. He said that egg is high values food and it also decreases the risk of many diseases. He said naturally packed with 13 essential nutrients, eggs support health at every stage of life, from brain development in early years to muscle maintenance and bone strength as we age. He said that poultry was the second largest industry of the country after textile. He urged the people to use the egg daily. He said that UAF developed Unigold breed for backyard poultry gives double quantity of egg per annum compared to rational backyard poultry. Faculty of Animal Husbandry Dean Dr Qamar Bilal said that the country was producing around 25 billion eggs per year. He said that per person consumption is around 100 egg whereas in the developed nation, they are using 300 egg per year. He said that the poultry sector was fast growing and helping meet protein need of the country. He said egg contains proteins, minerals and vitamins. He said egg are widely available, and incredibly versatile, making them a powerful wholefood for many families, cultures and communities across the world. Dean Faculty of Veterinary Sciences Dr Shahid Mehmood stressed that by taking eggs and milk in daily food, the challenges of food security could be met. She called for increasing the productivity by using the latest practices. He said that World Egg Day, celebrated on the second Friday of October each year, invites people from all backgrounds to appreciate and honour the exceptional contributions eggs make to diets and health worldwide.
