FAISALABAD November 4: Intellectual Property Right Pakistan Chairperson Farukh Amil stressed upon the need to create awareness about Intellectual Property to put Pakistan on the Intellectual Property map of the world as a compliant and responsible country. He said that a seminar on Interactive Session on “Contemporary Approaches to use IPRs for Development of Agriculture Sector and Food Security at Syndicate Room, University of Agriculture, Faisalabad. The seminar was presided over by UAF Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Zulfiqar Ali. Farukh Amil said awareness must be created among the people about IPPs to get them invention registered for a prosperous country. He lauded the steps being taken on the part of UAF for the development of agricultural sector. He said that the role of IP is therefore critical in national development and national security. He said that IP education needs to be taught at school, college and university level. As we are becoming increasingly dependent on technology in all walks of life, the value of innovation and creativity is vital. Equally, the protection and promotion of national resources becomes crucial to harness national wealth. This can only take root and flourish if a strong IP system is in place. A stable IP environment becomes a magnet for future creativity and innovation and provides opportunities for the youth of Pakistan. Prof Dr Zulfiqar Ali said that innovation and product development would pave way for knowledge economy. He said that students and researchers must be aware with IP process to get their products registered. He said that university is strengthening academia-industry linkages for economic uplift. He was of the view that IP desk at university Office of Research Innovation and Commercialization (ORIC) is having an IP desk from which university community must be encouraged to get benefit. He said that innovation is the currency of progress in 21st era and universities are the hubs for inculcating and generating new ideas. He said that young generation is ambassador to change for economic development. On the occasion, Director Patent IPO Muhammad Ismail, Dean Agriculture Prof Dr Ghulam Murtaza, Chairman Plant Breeding and Genetics (PBG) Prof Dr Muhammad Azeem Khan, Dr Muhammad Aslam and others also spoke.
