FAISALABAD Nov 14, 2025: Empowering farmers with updated knowledge is essential to meet national wheat demand and ensure long-term food security. It was said by the University of Agriculture Faisalabad (UAF) Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Zulfiqar Ali. He visited Jaranwala and was talking to the local farming community. Dr Zulfiqar said that the initiative “Grow More Wheat Campaign 2025” aims to promote modern, climate-smart wheat production practices, ensure food security and guide farmers on adopting innovative technologies for improved yield. He said that this campaign reflects the university’s commitment to help farmers to transform traditional agriculture practices into modern agrarian technologies. He emphasized adopting high-efficiency irrigation, certified seed and balanced fertilization to overcome productivity gaps. He urged farmers to follow recommended practices by UAF experts to achieve maximum wheat production to ensure country’s food security. He said that New Zealand was having world highest wheat production, Dean Faculty of Agriculture Dr Ghulam Murtaza said that this campaign is designed to guide farmers on best sowing practices, timely agronomic interventions and better soil management. He noted that improved seed varieties and precision farming tools can significantly enhance wheat output and reduce production risks. Dr Muhammad Naveed said that the campaign is timely step to guide farmers before the peak sowing season. He said that proper land fertility and timely irrigation can greatly boost wheat yield across the region. Director Agriculture Extension Faisalabad Khalid Mahmood said that scientist interaction helps local farming communities adopt new technologies with confidence. Director farms Dr Muhammad Aslam said that practical demonstrations on land preparation and selection of good quality seed enable farmers to improve yields and get maximum profit. Progressive farmers Muhammad Rashid and Sardar Babar said that such awareness visits boost farmers’ morale and encourage them to switch from traditional methods to modern techniques. They noted that guidance on fertilizer balance, disease management and water-saving strategies is crucial for achieving maximum wheat productivity. UAF faculty members, Punjab Agriculture Extension Officers and other local notables also spoke on the event.
