FAISALABAD Feb 3: As many as 115 students of University of Agriculture Faisalabad has completed one-year Agriculture Financial Literacy Student Ambassador Program, helping raise financial literacy among the farming community . The flagship program was offered by State Bank of Pakistan in collaboration with University of Agriculture Faisalabad. The Agriculture Financial Literacy Student Ambassador Program is meant to educate the farming community about the agricultural financing scheme in order to get rid them from the exploitation of middle man. Addressing the concluding ceremony, UAF Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Zulfiqar Ali said that said that such initiatives were the need of the hour for the handling of the farming community and a pathway to avoid the middle man. He said that we have to transform our agriculture sector on modern lines and shrink the import and to increase exports. He said that the food security was needed Director- Agriculture Credit & Financial Inclusion Department SBP Abid Qamar-said that this flagship initiative helped raise awareness among the farming community regarding available financial schemes and government-driven initiatives. AFLP stands out as a pioneering effort, as it unites all major stakeholders, including SBP, commercial banks, federal, and provincial governments departments, to engage with farmers collectively. Dean Social Sciences Dr Waqas Wakeel said that awareness about agricultural financing is essential for improving productivity, ensuring food security, and uplifting small and medium farmers. He said. “This initiative reflects a strong commitment to empowering farmers, promoting modern agricultural practices, and stabilizing rural livelihoods.” Joint Director Agriculture Credit & Financial Inclusion Department said that that program said that they were actively working to expand the outreach of agricultural financing, particularly to small farmers, women, and underserved segments of the rural economy, Institute of Agriculture Resource Economics Director Dr Muhammad Asghar said that this program also helped students to learn from the problems of the farming community. In the agricultural finance outreach championship, Osama Anwar, Sharafat Ali and Muhammad Salman stood first, second and third respectively.
