World Pulses Day.

FAISALABAD February 10, 2026: The University of Agriculture, Faisalabad (UAF) organized an Awareness Walk on World Pulses Day to highlight the nutritional, economic, and environmental importance of pulses in daily diets and sustainable agriculture. The awareness walk was jointly organized by the Department of Plant Breeding and Genetics (PBG), Department of Agronomy, IBMS, and the Institute of Agricultural and Resource Economics (IARE). The walk led by UAF Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Zulfiqar Ali commenced from the Clock Tower, UAF with enthusiastic participation from students and faculty members across various departments. Speaking on the occasion, Vice Chancellor UAF Prof. Dr. Zulfiqar Ali said that the country imports pulses worth $1 billion that is a matter of concerns. He called for promoting its cultivation and stressed upon the vital role of pulses in ensuring sustainable food systems. He said “Pulses are an affordable source of high-quality protein and essential nutrients. Their cultivation not only supports human health but also improves soil fertility and reduces environmental degradation. Promoting pulses is crucial for achieving food security and sustainable agricultural development,” he stated. World Pulses Day is observed globally to recognize the contribution of pulses to nutrition, livelihoods, and environmental sustainability. Dean Agriculture Dr Ghulam Murtaza, PBG Chairman Dr Azeem Iqbal Khan, Dr Asghar Ali, Dr Waseem Akram, Dr Asif Kamran, Dr Rana Muhamad Atif, Dr Tehseen Azhar, Dr Nadeem Akbar, Dr Ashfaq Malhi, Dr Rizwana, and a large number of faculty members attended.
