World Women Day.

FAISALABAD Mar 06: Empowering women is essential for sustainable development, social harmony and national progress and universities must play leading role in nurturing confident, educated and socially responsible women who can contribute positively to society. It was said by the speakers at a seminar on Women’s Day at University of Agriculture Faisalabad (UAF). The event was organized by the Institute of Home Sciences (IHS). Talking to the audience, Dean Faculty of Food, Nutrition and Home Sciences Prof Dr Imran Pasha said that empowering women means recognizing their contributions not only within families but also in economic and social spheres. He stressed that women today are excelling in science, education, technology and entrepreneurship. He urged students to develop confidence, pursue their ambitions fearlessly and challenge stereotypes that limit women’s participation in various professional fields. Director IHS Dr Beenish Israr said that women’s empowerment begins with access to quality education and supportive environments. She stated that women have immense potential to contribute to every sector of society when provided equal opportunities. She added that at UAF we focus on building leadership skills among young women so they can become agents of positive change and inspire future generations through their achievements. Dr Muhammad Atif Randhawa from National Institute of Food Science and Technology discussed the importance of creating safe and respectful environments for women in educational institutions and workplaces. He noted that gender equality is fundamental to achieving sustainable development goals. MPA Punjab Uzma Jabeen Rana said that empowering women through education, skill development and policy support is vital for national progress. She highlighted the government’s commitment to promoting gender equality and creating opportunities for women in education, employment and leadership. Assistant Prof of Law at GCUF Dr Fozia Naseem highlighted the importance of legal awareness among women for protecting their rights and dignity. She said that many women are unaware of the laws designed to safeguard them from discrimination, harassment and violence. She urged female students to educate themselves about their constitutional and legal rights so they can confidently stand against injustice and contribute to building a fair and equitable society. Ex MPA Dr Najma Afzal encouraged young women to support one another and work collaboratively. She highlighted that women in Pakistan are increasingly proving their capabilities in education, leadership, entrepreneurship and public service. Dr Naeema Mansoor, Gynaecologist, stressed the importance of women’s health and well-being for a strong and productive society. She said that awareness about reproductive health, nutrition and mental well-being is essential for women at every stage of life. She urged young women to prioritize their health, seek medical guidance when needed and break the stigma surrounding discussions on women’s health issues. Dr Ayesha Riaz, Dr Hira Iftikhar, Alveena Haseeb, Nizwa Itrat and other notables also spoke on the event.
