FAISALABAD April 3: University of Agriculture Faisalabad has launched massive Plantation for Generations drive, meant to increase the green net in face of daunting climate challenge effect. The drive that will continue for a month is arranged by the Department of Forestry and Range Management; Dean Faculty of Agriculture and Pakistan Society of Foresters, UAF in connection with International Forest Day. UAF Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Zulfiqar Ali inaugurated the drive who was flanked with Dean Agriculture Ghulam Murtaza, Chairman Entomology Dr Waseem Akram, Chairman Plant Breeding and Genetic Dr Azeem Iqbal, Director Horticulture Dr Ahmad Sattar Khan, Chairman Forestry Dr Fahad Raheed, Director Farm Dr Muhammad Aslam, Chairman Plant Pathology Dr Abdul Rehman, Director Farm Muhammad Aslam, Dr Nadeem Abbas, Dr Nadeem Akbar, Dr Muhammad Raheed, Dr Muhammad Irfan, Dr Samar Abbas, Dr Shoukat Ali, Dr Asif, Dr Haroon, Jahanzeb Tariq and other notables. UAF Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Zulfiqar Ali said tree plantation is not just an activity but it is our national and moral responsibility to safeguard our environment for the future generations. He said that climate changes and alternation in weather patterns were causing a serious threat to our planet. He said: "forests are the lungs of our planet and a vital pillar for our national economy. In an era of unpredictable weather patterns, every sapling we plant today is a shield for future generations. UAF will continue to lead from the front in adopting climate-smart agricultural practices, he added. Agriculture Dean Dr. Ghulam Murtaza, said that by integrating trees into our farming systems, we can boost economic stability for our farmers while restoring depleted ecosystems. He said that tree plantation must become a regular feature of our lives to ensure long-term environmental benefits. He urged citizens to adopt plantation habit to protect our planet from the hazardous effects of climate changes Department of Forestry and Range Management Chairman Dr Fahad Rasheed said: " We should not just focus planting trees but we must ensure their survival by protecting them during initial growth period. Our department is dedicated to promoting indigenous species that ensure long-term ecological and economic benefits, he added. He said that forests provide more than just wood; they offer livelihoods and ecosystem services.
