FAISALABAD May 11: The Convener, Regional Agriculture Forum for Central Punjab and Vice Chancellor, University of Agriculture Faisalabad, Prof. Dr. Zulfiqar Ali presided over a meeting of the Regional Agriculture Forum (Central Punjab). The meeting was meant to identify and prioritize solution-oriented, and researchable thematic areas to guide future funding calls of the Endowment Fund Secretariat. The meeting prioritized agricultural issues including wheat, cotton, livestock, agricultural mechanization, climate changes and others to ensure food security. Prof Dr Zulfiqar Ali said that climate-smart agriculture has become not only an option but a necessity. He said in the face of current agricultural challenges, we have to come up with tangible research work, and solutions to fight the challenges. He added we have to enhance our effort on climate resilient agriculture, and promote the modern technologies among the farming community. He added that increasing impact of climate changes on agriculture was posing a serious threat of food insecurity and we have to prepare ourselves to cope with the situation. He said that in the face of plant diseases, the role of agricultural scientists had enhanced to combat with latest techniques and tangible research work.
