The Ambassador, accompanied by Deputy Head of Mission Ms Erica Lucero, visited the University of Agriculture Faisalabad (UAF) on Monday.

FAISALABAD, Oct 5: Ambassador of Argentina to Pakistan H.E. Mr Sebastián Sayús has said that Pakistan-Argentina cooperation in the agriculture sector will be further strengthened to benefit from each other’s experiences and jointly address emerging challenges. The Ambassador, accompanied by Deputy Head of Mission Ms Erica Lucero, visited the University of Agriculture Faisalabad (UAF) on Monday and held discussions with Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Zulfiqar Ali and faculty members on strengthening academic, research and institutional cooperation between UAF and Argentine institutions. The meeting explored potential areas of mutual interest, particularly agricultural research, education, innovation, technology transfer and academic exchange. The participants also discussed opportunities for developing joint initiatives to address emerging challenges in agriculture and food security. Ambassador Sebastián Sayús said agriculture remained a vital pillar of the economies of both countries and offered considerable potential for further cooperation. He said both countries were looking to expand existing avenues of bilateral collaboration and develop partnerships with greater economic and technological impact. He said Argentina and Pakistan shared common challenges, including climate change, artificial intelligence, food security and the need to make agriculture more productive and sustainable. He also appreciated efforts aimed at increasing women’s participation in agriculture and related fields, describing gender inclusion as an important component of future development. Referring to Argentina’s National Institute of Agricultural Technology (INTA), the Ambassador highlighted the potential for greater cooperation between Argentine institutions and UAF. He stressed that the next step was to give greater practical substance to the arrangements through targeted joint activities, scientific cooperation and the exchange of expertise. UAF Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Zulfiqar Ali said that Pakistan and Argentina shared a strong agricultural identity and faced many common challenges, including climate change, food security, resource constraints and the need to improve farm productivity through modern technologies. He said UAF was keen to further strengthen its international partnerships and translate academic linkages into practical research and field-level solutions. “We welcome cooperation with Argentine universities and research institutions, particularly in areas where our countries can benefit from sharing knowledge, technologies and experiences,” he added. He said that collaboration with Argentina could open new avenues for joint research, faculty and student exchange, capacity building and innovation in agriculture. He stressed the importance of developing partnerships that generated tangible benefits for farmers and contributed to sustainable agricultural development and food security.
